Ocean Cruise Lines
Expedition, luxury, premium and family cruise lines — and which kind of ship fits an Antarctica voyage.
Compare cruise lines with a specialist »Expedition Landing or Scenic Cruising?
Not every Antarctica cruise is the same. Under IAATO guidelines, ships with more than 500 passengers cannot land guests ashore, and no more than 100 people may be ashore at one site at a time.
Expedition ships (landings)
Small ships of roughly 100–200 guests make daily Zodiac landings. Lines include expedition specialists and luxury lines with expedition ships, such as HX (Hurtigruten Expeditions), Seabourn and Viking.
Scenic cruising (no landings)
Some larger ships include a few days of scenic cruising off the Antarctic Peninsula on longer South America voyages — a lower-cost way to see the ice from deck. Which lines offer it changes from season to season; ask your specialist.
